Building Technology Without Losing the Intention Behind Every Decision | ScaleUp Colombia

Growth takes many shapes. Some can be measured in numbers. Others are defined by the decisions made when no one is watching. There comes a point in every tech company’s journey where moving forward is no longer enough. It becomes essential to pause, take a hard look, and ask whether the direction still aligns with the motivation that started it all.

What moved us to become part of the organizing team behind ScaleUp Colombia was the need to extend better questions. To test what we've validated in the global arena against a community also facing the dilemmas of scaling. Surrounded by others who aren’t trying to appear like they have it all figured out, but are committed enough to open up their processes, share their wins, and be just as transparent in how they build.

ScaleUp Colombia is an event designed for tech founders in expansion stages who want to prepare their companies for investment. In this article, we share why we chose to be part of the experience, what it means to us, and how we approach growth when it's met with honesty.

A Critical Lens for Clarity

At Cuemby, we've spent years helping organizations get ready for investment, acquisition, or expansion. We know what it means to test an architecture, to align a tech culture with global standards, and to document practices that often go unnoticed in day-to-day operations. But we also know how easy it is to focus on looking “ready” and forget to ask why we’re scaling in the first place.

Preparation can’t become an empty performance. Technology that overlooks its impact often feeds into inertia that’s hard to reverse. Taking part in spaces like this helps us reconnect with the deeper questions. Not to teach how it’s done—but to work, alongside others, on the idea that scaling must be intentional, demanding, and deeply conscious.

What We're Willing to Put on the Table

Every stage of the event, from the live infrastructure reviews to casual conversations with fellow founders—presents an interesting challenge: understanding what still needs to evolve.

Here are some of the questions we brought into this experience:

  • How aligned is our infrastructure with who we say we are as a company?
  • What decisions are we still holding on to out of habit, even if they no longer fit our current context?
  • How much of our stack reflects maturity, and how much still relies on temporary fixes?
  • Where are our most critical blind spots—and who’s helping us see them?
  • How do we continue growing without compromising the technical and cultural principles that define us?

Answering these questions is an act of trust—in the process, in the people around us, and in our ability to face our own gray areas.

What We Bring to ScaleUp Colombia

We know what it takes to build with investment standards in mind. This isn’t theory for us. We’ve been directly involved in over a hundred real due diligence processes, helping companies document their practices, structure their systems, and strengthen their technical governance.

We bring that experience knowing that contexts change, and that scaling brings very real challenges: outdated architectures, deployment pipelines without version control, fragile CI/CD, lack of monitoring, environments without automation or traceability, and technical decisions that once worked but now limit growth. No one is immune to mistakes, weak points, or pending lessons.

That’s why we value spaces where growth isn’t only measured by conversion or visibility. We want to talk about quality, responsibility, and the things we’re not willing to compromise as we scale.

Colombia as a Starting Point

This is only the first edition, what begins in Colombia can take shape elsewhere. Every founder and every tech team facing the leap from startup to scale, anywhere in the world, goes through similar questions. What works here can be adapted. It can be replicated. It can spark new ways of growing with intention.

That’s the real value. The conversations happening in these rooms don’t stay there. They make their way into operations, reshape work plans, and ignite the mindset needed to build solutions that support real growth, withstand complexity, and open up new possibilities for impact.
